Universal Perspective

Carl Sagan forever changed our perspective when he showed us that pale blue dot. However small that made us feel, the scale of the universe is much grander than that. Imagine standing on an alien shoreline as the waves of a strange ocean wash up at your feet. You look up, and the night sky is filled with an array of stars and a band of mist across the sky, but this is not the Milky Way you are looking at. This cosmic structure is our galactic neighbor, the Andromeda galaxy.

On the sands of this unnamed world overlooking the water stretching out to the horizon you gaze out and then up at a small point of light. This is our home. From here, it is no longer a pale blue dot; our entire galaxy is just one speck of light. That small dot, barely visible, represents the light of 300 billion stars, including ours. All with a chance for life, and billions of chances for evolution to bring about unique species, all within that tiny point of light.

Now that you have a better sense of the vastness we live in, grasp the concept of religion formed in a time where we could not even begin to understand a concept like this. Think of how far we have come and the enormity of the stage upon which we are all players, and tell me that Christianity matters, that Islam matters. Tell me how savage, warlike men of one evolved species of ape received the truth that explains what you are looking at. Look at how small you are, how tiny our species is in the context of an intergalactic measurement of time and space. But, your ancient mythology got it right, huh? This was all made for us, right?

How fucking arrogant of you.

Building The Pyramids

thespacegoat:

The Secret To Building The Pyramids Has Been Discovered
The secret behind the moving of heavy and large stones to construct the Pyramids, the last remaining Ancient World Wonders, has been discovered and revealed by a team of scientists.
The scientists, consisting of physicists from the FOM Foundation and the University of Amsterdam , believe the ancient Egyptians used a ‘clever trick to make it easier to transport heavy pyramids stones by sledge’: wet sand.
“The Egyptians moistened the sand over which the sledge moved. By using the right quantity of water, they could halve the number of workers needed,” says a statement released by the physicists.
The dampness of the sand from pouring the right amount of water significantly reduced friction and how much force was required to move the huge stones, which, on average, are approximately 2.5 tons in weight.
The physicists explain that wet sand is twice as stiff and firm as dry sand. This, and the fact that the wet sand would not pile up in front of a sledge, allowed the sledge to far more easily glide over the firm desert sand.
